The day started with a 5am wake up call. Tiger was doing well enough that we kept our plans to kayak Tomales bay with our Baja friends.

Vicki and Richard were willing to risk it, whether we were going to make it today or not. They had 3 friends coming too! We drove down early to meet them at 9am. We crossed the bay, explored the coves and layed out in the sun, once it broke through the fog. The most fun about being with Vicki and Richard is the banter, all with Richard's dry British humor. We shared stories of our Baja kayak trip that Richard's friend have never heard them. He countered with Monkey stories, they can be quite mean, flinging poo and the red butts...did you know that monkey muscle is twice as strong as human muscle?

The kayak is always fun going out but the trip back, what with the wind and all was a bit painful. Little whitecaps and FHW. We got back only to appreciate the amazing trip that we survived.

Then off to Nick's Cove, Clams, squid and french fries...yummy. We enjoyed more stories, banter and talking shi T.

Either way fun to be had and I got some ocean time. I love rockin in the boat...I feel more comfortable on the water than on land. So even though we were taking the sweep position with Eve...all it meant was more time in the ocean. Tiger is here next to us, smiling and eating ice cubes...so the day was a success. ps. who's toes are th, with polish on???? Richard????ppss.video to follow with our Mentos and diet coke experiment. Tig's still with us, happy to report

Her seisure is probably a sign of her future but she's doing better. We are just thrilled to spend every minute with her. We opted to proceed with Rich's birthday plans tonight: Sushi Masters. Its a sushi competition and tasting. We met up at home, all excited, dressed for a night on the town only to be delighted by sneeking into the VIP tasting...free beer but even there the sushi sampling was below average. The major catch of the day was freakin bag of rice, oh did I say this function was sponsored by the California Rice board??? The Taiko drumming was kinda cool but for 65 bucks a ticket, dry sushi, total disorganization and poor execution...our night to celiebrate Rich's birthday was bust. You know its bad when the crowd is "with you" making fun of how bad it is. Rich picked up a few tips but thats it. If anyone wants to see a master, freakin see Rich...and his results are delectible! Oh well, another instance of ... at least we can say we tried!!! Read "burning man" hello!

Pet of my heart!

We caught up with friends at Taro's last night to celiebrate Rich's upcoming birthday! It was great, sushi and Anna, Rachael, Tavo, Menki, Daniel and JOHNNY. Rich even was able to do the Birthday game (early) and won a Taro's hat. But all the attempts to remind myself of that fun are dashed after this morning.

Tiger Lily, the pet of my heart...had a seizure or a stroke this morning. Rich saw her go down and went to her because we knew immediately something was much more serious. I hadn't posted that she was diagnosed with cancer recently cuz I'm was in denial. The tumor changes in size and I just wanted, so hard, to believe...it wasn't "that" serious. Coincidently we had a vet appt. at 10am and at 9:40...blubbering I called and told them where we were at...she couldn't walk, shaking and drooling and they said it was time to make some hard decisions. Did I want her to pass at home or at the clinic...and I said we'll just stay home...more like bubbled it out between tears. She seemed to get a little better through the day, we canceled all plans and have laid on the floor with her and all the pets all days. She definetly has more control over her facilities but enevitibility of her situation is with us every minute. She is getting every treat she desires. I have never loved any being the way I love Tiger, I know if I met her as a human we would be dear friends...its just chemical...we are a Match. I will enjoy every minute I have remaining with her. Her body is just giving out, but her sparkle in her eyes and devilish grin remains....her legs may not work...but her nose and tummy still are ticking right along...hugs K

Some times its not what you plan , but what you do with your time that matters

I had booked us an adventure, dream of my life time to go up in a hot air balloon to celiebrate our 18th wedding anniversary. I got to work at 6:30am frieday to ensure we'd get a jump on the traffic up to Tahoe. I had reservations at Harvey's, in South Lake and knew the gig for the HAB ride was that we had to get up at 4:30am to call to make sure we were "a go!" We got to Tahoe around 6pm, checked in and decided to dine at the Cabo Wabo at the hotel. We enjoyed some high fuel drinks to start the adventure. Enjoy their mexican fare and headed to the penny machines for a little gaming fun. All knowing we had an early day, the plan was call at 4:30, be wisked away at 5:30 to a boat, zoom out to the middle of the lake, launch in the HAB and a four hour adventure including Fallen Leaf Lake and sunrise. We threw away like 20 bucks on penny machines and were in bed by nine, warmed with "rita's!" I felt like that Disney commericial with the kids, "you sleeping? No, I'm too excited!" So I saw 1:30am 3:30 am...finally 4:30...Rich called the HAB shop and Harley confirmed it was still raining and windy at Heavenly and since we didn't want to end up in "OZ" it was a "no go." Turn over and lament about what didn't happen but we did sleep some more. 7:30 I got up, done with sleep, got showered, dressed and down to Starbucks for some java. Oh and then there was a Cinnabon, (damn that scent!)...so I bought one of those. We enjoyed coffee and Cinnabon in bed. Our spirits weren't to dampend...we headed down the hill at like 9am. Stopped in Cameron Park, Arrow Springs to buy some glass supplies and Costco again supplies. Once home, and after reading our Aunt Sue update on our pets...love her we went about our day...me in the studio, kiln running and Rich went to help Mark with jack hammering....all and all I'm fine it didn't work out, cuz Rich and I always find a way to have fun together, and isn't that what matters after 18 years married???

Props. out to Brenda, happy birthday sister!

Memorial Weekend-success!

We started the long weekend with a nap. We were going to see Rich's friend, who's in a band: The Imaginots at the Fox and Goose. We picked up Anna for the nights festivities and to order a pint! The Imaginots were first up of three bands....NOT ! Their bass player didn't show up, we heard three other bands...then threw in the towel. Gawd it was 11:15pm...I had Ensure to drink...come on!...but we did not crash as soon as we returned, there were songs to howl to, stories to tell and dances to dance....all in Anna's living room. The night wound down and we found a bed, couch or sleeping pad to curl up in. Then there was the gentle nudge of waking up fracking roofers next door, subtle as Heavy Metal, singing to themselves, and bang, bang, bang...freakin 7am! Now really? come on....Anna and I were pissed and Rich kinda let us be and rolled over. They stopped after a half hour and the only reason they remained alive was because Rich edumacated us that they were getting the tar paper down on the roof due to the rain-but they were majorly lacking social skills...apparently they were NOT at the Fox and Goose Friday night! Whatevhar! Since we were up, we made lemonade outta lemons....Tower Cafe yeah! I had crab cake benedict, Rich had a pulled pork omelet and Anna had buttery french toast! We parted ways and went about a Saturday's worth of chores...studio for me. Oto's and sushi for Rich. Then we watched Donnie Darko (holy crap!) freaky Frank! epp!!!

Sunday we did the Salmon Falls mountain bike trail, treacherously steep, rocky and isolated...but we made it. We went to Indiana Jones Sunday night-Loved it!!! Then a book store visit, Indian food dinner and capped with a trip to Cold Stone Creamery...Great date day.

Today was real chores. We rearranged the living room (better Feng Shui) and now prepped for returning to "work life!" Great weekend and the kiln is going again, my fingers are crossed these new decals work!

Hottest day of the Summer

And Mark Pyle calls to order, ShovelFest '08. He rented a tractor and hired two "Labor Ready" day workers. We started early this morning, gloved, sunscreened up and willing to put a days worth of killah work in. What we didn't expect on this 100 degree plus day was the humor and laughing through the wheelbarrow caravan, through the dirt, through back breaking shoveling...but with tunes of our youth inspiring us to continue, together we pulled 20 yards of dirt out of Mark's backyard. Rich, Edda, Don, Will, Larry and myself freakin rocked a brutal day. Mark was our quarterback and we all took his lead and orders in stride...each burning muscle, sweating through our clothes but not through the dirt, nothing penetrates the dirt....but it was fill the wheelbarrow, maneuver it through obstical course, get it to the dumpster, up the ramp and dump....then repeat 100's of times. Thanks to Mark's good karma he hired some Day Laborers that were up for the challenge. Plus they were funny, underspoken Larry (who's been married 7 times) and joking Will (with one lung, a machete fight story, 8 kids and land in Shasta that he's going to move to) when you get down to what makes you feel "real" in life, today was one of those days...we were all equal, equally in pain, equally suffering, equally hot but most importantly equally appreciative of the fact that a hard days work is something to be proud of and together we could move mountains.

drama-meter in the green

the weekend was good, Friday night Anna came over we did some reminiscing and lots of laughing. Saturday we went to the Whole Earth festival, saw Iron Man and hit my fav Thrift store. Then did a sushi night with Mark, Edda and Laurel.

Sunday was all about my mom and Mother Day...we went to Capital Nursery and walked for hours...what a great nursery. She reminisced about her love of nurseries and plants, talked about her Mom's favorite flowers and at one point she just wanted to stand by the roses and drink in the smell. Love my Mom! And since I never met her Mom (she passedwhen my Mom was but 15) I like to hear stories about her. We went to Pasta Pomodora for lunch, freakin love that place. She had a shrimp pasta dish with this dreamy tomato/cream sauce and I went for their chicken piccata...loved it. Then off to Home Goods, a great store to buy all kinds of kitchen, housewares and bathroom stuff.

Now ready to get organized for starting another work week!

a mini vackay to Santa Barbara and Simi Valley for our bro in laws 60th

Rich and I headed to Santa Barbara Thursday morning, Scion packed and adventure in our sails. We stayed next/close to the beach at El Capitan Canyon, pictured in this month's Sunset magazine. We thought what the hell, cheaper than a hotel in Santa Barbara and a authentic experience. The first night was dreamy, in our safari tent, cushy bed and electricity. The compound had one (we thought there'd only be one) disturbing attribute: it was totally The Darma Compound. Thursday in the parking lot there were only three other cars there, probably 100 cabins and 50 tents...we walked through to the store to see a kid heavy family outing with a section of 30 cabins...I had chills, kept waiting for Sawyer and Freckles to pop up...thankfully they didn't but the underlining fear remained for me. But the store had stellar food, energetic staff and nature for days. It is set a bike ride from a picturesque beach view t-boned with a wandering creek. There were birds galore. At night it was cold, and the walk to the bathroom house was terrifying but short. No smoke monsters! and I was looking. The next day we planned an outing to Solvang as I had spent many days running amok with my cousins in my early days. And the movie Sideways brought some of those memories back, I had to go. So easing our way through the vineyards and rolling hills we passed the first and only Ostrich Land, which freaked us out seeing 100's of huge prehistoric birds cruzing about from the highway...but we pressed on. In 1977-9ish Solvang was a Danish invasion, from the food to the windmills and little wooden shoes everywhere. Well 30ish years later it was just a tourist trap, buses coming in from all over dropping Seniors off for the day. So we walked around and got out. I got no flashbacks...which is was sad but Rich indulged me by going my grandparents house in Santa Barbara. Driving away, disheartened...we passed Ostrich Land again and Rich insisted we turn around and go in. Of course camera in tour. So the owner was very serious taking us through the training because the Ostriches were huge, strong and hungry. The utensil to feed the birds was a steal dustpan with a dog dish tied to it. So you go out the door and the birds rush you...I was up first and terrified. The started pecking, and I was all about feeding them but keeping my body, face and hair as far away as possible.Rich just stood there clicking and laughin his ass off...then he was up, Stud man, no fear and they got pissed when your bowl was empty. It was exhilarating! Made the trip worth it!

Then down to my Grandparents house, or about the general area. My mom remembered the street name but not the number. Funny how childhood memories make everything soooo much bigger. The magnificent house I remembered was smallish and simple but held memories nonetheless. Many summer mornings waking to my Grandads famous sourdough pancakes, my fourposter bed and my Nana's love of flowers. We traipsed around Santa Barbara and wound up on some harbor. We spoke to the docent at the Santa Barbara Outdoor Activity division about the Channel Islands. Maybe a future Kayak site. She was soooo bored and just thrilled to have someone interested to talk to, she said most people come up ask for dining recommendations and then leave. Then back to the campground...parking lot now filled. Filled with no less than 400 kids (Rich says the numbers increase with each installment of the story) These were "make a wish kids" from the intercity, one might think that may strike an empathetic bone in me but no. They were everywhere, screaming and having fun like kids camping should make...but come on we were hostages between their cabins. There was not enough wine to drink to make the noise of their band serenade sound melodic! They pounded, what sounded like buckets with wooden spoons for four hours. Not amused and interested in marital bliss, Rich offered the only pair of earplugs to me. I drifted off to sleep at 9:30 and Rich was cursing every last one of them up towards 11:30pm. Alls good, someday they'll be camping in the cloth, non-sound barrier tents! We checked out enroute to Tom's big 60th bash. We happily checked into the Courtyard, and took a real shower and headed to the party. Well, never having gone to a LA party, it was everything you'd imagine (Cookie you host quite a party) Million dollar house, catered, dance floor and an amazing group of friends. Rich even re-met Mindy from his graduating class. What a coinsidence! Tom and Cookie were in their element, smoozing and entertaining. We drank, ate and remet many people. The P's were there, Patty, Peggy and Pammy...and Bug, yes Bug. all friends from many decades of Cookie. Tom, a helicopter pilot from Vietnam, who flew in Thailand, Alaska and all over the world has his posse. Great tales, many smiles and loads of love. The nephews where there, in charge of outdoor heaters, Mr. Margarita machine (yes they have them....like a slurpee machine at 711) and the music. We danced alittle and thourghly enjoyed ourselves...fonded memory of Cookie, was walking around with a Budweiser in her hand, posed above here camera taking pictures. Welp a quick stop in the am for a family visit and we got to see the gift I bought Tom on Ebay...cuz in our minds...he is Superman. Lob all, back to work tamale!

this is for Lor and Bren (who else, hello!)

first off, sorry Lor for not getting back with you on the weekend outing, we had previous obligations. But I found an extra thirty minutes in my day between chores, Mason's birthday party at McKinnley and more chores to go to Rumpelstiltskin's...first time yarn purchase for me. I was pretty intimidated but the woman that worked there was willing to help me. I bought new needles (#11) thou the skien said #10s...and sale yarn (I'm sooooo cheap). I brought the supplies (of my new addiction) to the park, knowing Edda would help me "cast on." Which she did (Love you Edda!!) and then it was up to me to hold true to my commitment to pearling. Now I'm comfortable knitting but the pearling still vexes me. Edda was a trouper with my ineptitude but got me to a level that I could procede on my own...and Lor thats due to your initial training! So check it out. Don't look too close, but I'm pearling damn it!

ps. anyone, how do I put link/tabs in my posts???

Anna's back in Sac!

We are so happy that Anna chose to move back to Sac-check out her pad!!! She asked for some of Rich's help with wires, computer setup and speaker connections. So last night we kicked it, old school! Welcome and so glad to have you close!!!!
ps. throwing in one sushi shot from last weekend "avocado dragon!!"
now off to the studio!!!

....time for something totally different...

Penny is going crazy, I know we signed a contract when we adopted her...not to let her outside but she is officially going crazy. It started a few days ago, she found kind of a texture tag on the wall and pulled a chunk outta the wall. So I cleaned it up, gave her a cuttle bone (thanks birds) and have let her out under supervision. Then each day we get home, there is more evidence...she's still gnawing at the wall...my cat eats drywall. What the Hell? Advice???

WAHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Things were getting better this week, Greg is home and Safe. things were calming down, no crisis, work was workable, I got to see Mamma Mia Thursday night (thanks Margaret!!!!) and loved it...we have a wedding this weekend and Kayak whale watching replacement planned for Sunday, in Santa Cruz, bought a cute dress for the wedding, had hotel reservations and Lori O was going to watch the pets (another huge thanks and its nice to know we couldn't trust our pets with better friends!!! yes Sean too!!! XO) So...plans are moving on throughout the week, got my nails done, then Friday evening had a hair appointment....thats when it happened, wait did I tell you we were going to stay in Santa Cruz two nights and Rich would drop me at work Monday morning in Oakland...yeah yeah....best laid plans....
So I come out from the hair salon, get in my car, put the key in the starter and turn around to back out....only to see day light, yes there is no window, its been smashed out...funny how the brain, frame by frame, starts to digest what just freakin happened, I get outta the car and look at the back shattered window and they only stole one thing, oh just one thing (no biggie right?) no they stole my briefcase with all my work in it. Now I call 911, ok not really a life threatening incident, so call non-emergent police...stay on hold for twenty minutes while some of the surrounding store owner/managers come out and help clean up all the glass...finally I hang up, knowing I'll just have to file a claim with my insurance.

Thangs to be thankful for:
they didn't steal my car
they now must do the Dr Wong and Walters contract...that image in my head is really funny, some crook trying to do my work
no extended personal information was stolen
$100 deductible
and my hair looks gorgeous!

Really I'm trying to make light of it, but I feel so wronged, then I think of what Greg went through and I b iatch slap myself...thankful that it wasn't worse. So my advice during these trying times, don't leave anything of value in your car and never plan a freaking kayak whale watching tour, cuz it just WASN'T MEANT TO BE!!!
